It’s that time of year; Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas is soon to follow. Along with the turkey, Black Friday deals and quality family time comes another popular holiday tradition: charity. People tend to become more charitable during the holiday season, which is a good thing. Soup kitchens are full of volunteers, food drives are everywhere and the street corners glitter with Salvation Army santas. These are some of the most common methods of donating time and funds. And these are by no means bad ways to donate your holiday cheer; however, why not get a bit creative with your charitable contributions? Here are a few unique ways to donate your time and money.

Tab for a Cause

The holiday season is known for great deals on products both in-store and online. And in today’s digital world, most of us spend our time looking for bargains on the web. If you’re like most bargain hunters, you have several different websites open on several different tabs. Tabs for a Cause allows your online multitasking to do some good in the world. For every tab opened, the organization’s sponsors will donate a fraction of a penny to charity. Simply open your browser (Firefox or Chrome) and install the extension.

Charity Miles

The holidays bring colder weather and the cold weather inspires many people to get fit. Instead of spending their days indoors away from the cold, many people wrap themselves in their warmest winter workout wardrobe and take to the streets in an effort to stay healthy. What if you could not only get healthy, but also donate to charity? That’s what Charity Miles proposes. The application (available on Android and iOS) tracks users’ physical activity and converts it into charitable donations. For example, biking can earn you 10 cents per mile, while running and walking earns 25 cents per mile.

What better way to celebrate the holidays than with some nice, warm food? Many Americans use the holiday season to flex their culinary muscles however quite a few prefer to simply eat out. GoodDining allows you to fill up on food while donating to charity. Simply login to the company’s website, register a credit or debit card, and eat out at one of over 10,000 restaurants in the country using the registered card and that’s it! Just head over to one of your favorite restaurants (as long as it’s a GoodDining partner) and eat to heart’s content. 2.5 to 5 percent of your payment is deducted and donated to charity. Bon appétit!
